This must be done before you play your first battle. Make sure you use a referral code from one of your friends to benefit from some welcome back rewards. I'm guessing you would prefer to use the WGC so go to "All Games" and find the "World of Warships" game and install that there (and remove from Steam to free space). You simply need to decide between if you want to use Steam or you want to use WGC. The issue you are describing is a legacy of when WGC was not mandatory and you wanted to import the standalone World of Warships game into the WGC launcher. The Game Center is now mandatory for keeping the non-Steam game client up-to-date. You would also appear to want all of the progress you originally had on your original Wargaming-created account, so starting a new Steam account is not practical. Steam is only useful if you want to play on different machines there used to be a workaround to get the Steam client to work with WG accounts but you will never get the benefits (Valve-discounted DLCs, special contests and rewards) of a Steam-created account.
